Overlays

Original Resource Link

Overlays are supplemental windows used in tandem with a primary window, giving users access to related or helpful information and functionality without the perception of leaving a page or task. These appear on top of the main window when the user taps or clicks on an object.

Standard modals should be used only for these types of scenarios and content: Interruptive tasks: Forcing the user to complete a task or confirm a decision before the user can proceed. For example: "Are you sure you want to delete your file?" Focused content: Focusing the user on a single piece of content. For example: an EULA (End User Licensing Agreement).Copy codeSnippet copied.

Tooltips

Original Resource Link

Tooltips may contain up to 200 characters max to display very short, helpful information when the user hovers or taps an object in the main window. Images and links are not used within a tooltip. Minimize multiple instances of tooltips on a page in order to avoid visual disruption when the user moves around the page.
